6 “Diet Foods” That Backfire by SHAPE

  1. Fat-Free Chocolate Syrup-still not healthy and will have lots of calories
  2. Fat-Free Peanut Butter-the fat in PB is good fat! They’re taking it out and putting something else in; go for the real thing
  3. Broccoli-moderation is key; just because it’s a vegetable doesn’t mean it’s okay to binge on it. It is also very gassy and will bloat your stomach
  4. Chewing Gum- causes your body to release enzymes and can stimulate hunger; also, almost all gum contains aspartame (not good!)
  5. Sugar-Free Candy-it’s still candy, and now probably contains artificial sweeteners rather than real sugar
  6. Salad Dressing Spray-not as beneficial as real oils and vinegars

The point of this article was to set you straight on diet foods that people may think they can have more of or fill up on because they’re marked as “diet food.” In reality, no diet food is good for you. Again, it’s always better to eat real food. The key is moderation. Foods and other things labeled “fat-free” and “sugar-free” are not beneficial to your health, wellness, or weight loss goals. When they take the fat or the sugar out, that means they are putting something else IN. And it’s usually not a healthy ingredient; it’s typically artificial. Also, things marked this way are almost always processed food. Just go for real things instead; for example: dark chocolate, all natural peanut butter, all natural or organic salad dressings-or even better, make your own!
